Week 5 - Day 3

I went over the Washington Lee yesterday for my workout. The temperature was in the low 20s/high teens. I felt it most in my toes; that breathable mesh has its downsides... My left calf was feeling a little tight, so I opted for my running shoes instead of my spikes. Had I been running in spikes, the times below would have been at least a few tenths faster. Here is my workout:

Rest: 5 minutes between reps
Format: distance - target time (s) -actual time (s)

100m - 13 - 13.8 (hit the watch late on this one)
100m - 13 - 13.4
100m - 13 - 13.2
100m - 13 - 12.9
100m - 13 - 12.9
100m - 13 - 13.0
100m - 13 - 12.6
100m - 13 - 12.8
100m - 13 - 12.7
100m - 13 - 13.2

-----
I was pretty annoyed with ending on a 13.2. My calf was feeling tighter than it was earlier, so I played only a few minutes of pickup ultimate and then went home to ice.

p.s. I'm still trying to figure out the best way to show my workouts/times, etc. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Week 5: Day 1

Slightly overcast conditions today and I feared we may have a wash out. But the heavens didn't open and the cool grass didn't get wet luckily at Reid. I was however slightly soft under foot and at the end of the session you could certainly see my foot imprints along the straight.

Dave the marathon man and Sue the sprint queen were on site today and we really worked well together. This was Dave's first sprint work out since he decided a year ago he wanted to run 42.2 clicks.

I really appreciated the opportunity to stride out faster today. Felt really good and it wasn't all that hard. Towards the end I lost count, but luckily the guys were keeping tabs better than me, otherwise we would have run eleven 100s.

100m - 13 - 13.3s
100m - 13 - 13.0s
100m - 13 - 12.9s
100m - 13 - 12.8s
100m - 13 - 12.8s
100m - 13 - 12.8s
100m - 13 - 13.1s
100m - 13 - 12.8s
100m - 13 - 12.8s
100m - 13 - 12.7s

Dave did his runs mostly in the 14s range and Sue was doing 15s. Not sure exactly how long the recovery was, but we just did a walk back recovery between runs, so closer to 2-3 mins than 5 minutes. If we were running quicker and on the track I'd consider having a longer recovery closer to 5mins.

Tomorrow I'm off to GGs to run the 300m hill. Any takers?

20 degrees Fahrenheit is -6.67 Celsius. That is blood cold. No wonder Andrew your left calf was feeling a little cold, it had frost bite. We had 15 here today or if you prefer 59 F.

You have it tough in those conditions. Good onya for getting out there.

Week 7: Day 1

The temperature is the big news story as it only reached 5 degrees at training. That is getting cold, pretty much as cold as it will get over winter and we are still only in Autumn. Of course nothing like Andrew and his -6 degrees, that would be a morning training session for us during winter.

The other big news was that Campbell High elected to run their sports carnival on Reid Oval today. There was no athletics, but plenty of tug o war and other novelty events. So I had to switch to the less familiar oval #2. I really get scared running on it, given I tore my hamstring running there three years ago now. Every bump or niggle today made me ponder if I should keep going.

100m - 13s - 13.5s
100m - 13s - 13.6s
100m - 13s - 12.9s
100m - 13s - 12.8s
100m - 13s - 13.1s
100m - 13s - 12.9s
100m - 13s - 12.9s
100m - 13s - 12.8s
100m - 13s - 12.9s
100m - 13s - 12.8s

Once I got warmed up the times got much better. I am really happy I can be so consistent with my running ATM. The times aren't bad fir running on a grass oval which was a little mushy under foot and I started the first 10m each time quite cautiously as a result.

We have a new starter in the group, Jodi, from my new workplace. Sue will be excited to have a girl to race now. Jodi can make it out twice a week. She also likes the idea of running at the AIS, so maybe another sucker for those 400m?

FYI I ran alone today, so it looks like the winter cold is taking it's toll on my compatriots. Tomorrow I'm training at GGs if there is anyone out there who likes to run and doesn't mind the cold?

Week 12 - Day 1

Had to work through lunch, so it was an after work jaunt at the AIS for me. Unfortunately it was cold, dark and raining.

100m - 13 - 13.0s
100m - 13 - 12.8s
100m - 13 - 12.4s
100m - 13 - 12.1s
100m - 13 - 12.1s
100m - 13 - 12.0s
100m - 13 - 12.0s
100m - 13 - 12.2s
100m - 13 - 12.3s
100m - 13 - 12.0s

I was very happy with the runs. The rest was 3 to 4 minutes between runs. I got a little sore high in the hamstring and below the glut towards the end. I feel ok, but certainly the faster running is going to take some used too, especially given the cold weather. Tomorrow off to Reid.

Week 13 - Day 1

Again I was pressed for time due to the EOFY and what was worse I couldn't find my stopwatch. So I was training alone out at Reid without my watch and pressur wot get back to work. This wasn't a good day.

In the end I only did six of the 10 reps. This is really done to the fact I couldn't accurately time with my wristwatch and I felt a little stiff, which could have been alleviated had I warmed up for longer.

100m - 13s - 12.8s
100m - 13s - no time
100m - 13s - 12.8s
100m - 13s - no time
100m - 13s - 12.7s
100m - 13s - 12.8s

There is nothing more frustrating than doing the effort and finding you have no time to show for it. Tomorrow I have m 300m time trial at the AIS.
